Tokyo Tower celebrate Tanabata
This month, Tokyo Tower will schedule with a beautiful light display that ties in with Japan’s Tanabata star festival. Held each year on July 7, Tanabata has its roots in a Chinese folktale about a pair of tragic lovers. In celebration, Tokyo Tower’s observation deck has been decked out with 27,000 LEDs in order to recreate the splendor of the stars the two lovers cross to reunite. The display will run from now till July 7th.
Kitaro Chaya, Jindaiji
Kitaro is a popular and unique manga/anime “yokai” boy character. Found him and his friends cafe in Jindaiji. Horrible, but charming yokai means “spirits”, “demons” or “fairy”, they’re originally from Japanese folklore characters were welcoming us from all around the cafe (chaya).
Hase-dera, Kamakura
Hase-dera temple is one of the great Buddhist temples in Kamakura, famous for housing a massive wooden statue of Kannon. The statue is the largest wooden statue in Japan, standing at 9.18 m tall, and is made from camphor wood and gilded in gold. It has 11 heads, each of which represents a different one of Kannon’s characteristics. The temple also commands an impressive view over Kamakura’s bay.
Canal City Hakata
Canal City in Hakata is a futuristic shopping centre/entertainment/dining complex with a canal running through it. It is very close to the banks of the Naka Gawa River. It is worth visiting for its futuristic architecture. It has a fountain display every half hour. Canal City is about 10 minutes walk from Nakasu Kawabata Subway Station.
