Tateyama snow corridor
This is the famous Tateyama Kurobe Alphine Route. From April to May, the road from Bijodaira to Murodo runs between up to 20 meter high snow walls. The snow corridor is most spectacular around Murodo where an approximately one kilometer passage is open to pedestrians from around mid April to mid June.
Mount Rokko, Kobe
The Rokko Mountains in Kobe are part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park. They have been a favorite spot for communing with nature since old times, not only for Kobe’s citizens but also for people from other parts of Kansai. The many enjoyable hiking courses in the Rokko Mountains are too numerous to mention, and the panorama of Kobe viewed at night from the summit is truly breathtaking.
Hanyu PA, Saitama Pref.
This special rest stop is located in Hanyu City in Saitama Prefecture, Tokyo’s neighbor to the north. The Hanyu parking area, situated along the Tohoku Expressway, recently underwent renovations and set about recreating an Edo Period townscape. Everywhere you look, you can see the feature of an Edo Period town, complete with traditional tiled roofs, a fire watch tower, wooden signposts, and hanging lanterns.
Korakuen garden, Okayama
Okayama Korakuen Garden is considered to be one of the three best gardens in Japan since the Edo Period. I find one unique aspect of this garden in comparison to many others in Japan is the openness of it. Although you can never see an entire Japanese garden from one angle, much of Korakuen is flat, so you can see a large amount of the garden without many obstructions from a variety of angles. There are so many great angles for viewing various parts of the garden! Korakuen is beautiful and worthy of its status!
