99 cents store in Japan
I went to a 100 yen shop or 99 cents store near my house to buy my rice bowl and was able to find a nice one..
At 100 yen shops, you can buy almost any product such as food, stationery, underwear and health goods and entire set of dishes for just 100 yen. You can find them throughout Japan.
They became very popular after Japan began to suffer from a deflationary economy. You can find Japanese traditional goods like Japanese doll or “Uchiwa and sensu (fan) with woodblock prints as your souvenir, and no one knows that you got it for just one dollar.

For foreigners, Akihabara is the most well-known city in Japan as an electronics quarter since they can buy almost any electrical product as well as the latest gadgets. But, Akihabara is not a city name. It covers four cities near JR Akihabara station in Tokyo. Around 2006, it also became well-known for pop culture such as anime, games shops and maid café. Now, AKB48 is very famous and well-known the popular idol group in Japan. They started their performance in Akihabara with 48 members. So, as you figure out, AKB is an acronym for “Akihabara.”
The Biggest Festival in Japan??
One of the annual spring festival called, “Yamazaki Haru Matsuri,” which is an unique campaign to promote sales since 1981 by Yamazaki Baking Co., Ltd. It was established in Japan on 9 March 1948, more than sixty years since its founding in Ichikawa, Chiba prefecture. The reason for this campaign’s popularity is that they can get an elegant plate which made in France. They became a collectable plate for some people. Yamazaki provided over one billion and 10 thousand plates. The population in Japan is over 1 billion which means they are getting at least 3 plates for each person. So, we could call this festival the biggest one in Japan.
If you visit Japanese family and see the white plate, it could be from Yamazaki.
Too much snow is not fun
When I woke up this morning, it was snow. In my hometown, Nagano prefecture, we usually do not have much snow. But, this year was different.
Road condition of the streets is icy and snow packed. It creates a lot of accidents and heavy traffic especially a place where it does not usually snow in winter. In order to avoid accidents, while I was shoveled snow in my driveway, I saw someone was using a big snowplow car. In eastern Japan, you will often see people who are shoveling snow around their houses. When you are there, you can try it too. If it is only for sometimes, it could be fun.
Today is Valentine Day
Boys and men have been feeling uneasy since this morning since the number of chocolates they got is like a gauge of their popularity. Not getting even one chocolate makes the person lonely and unpopular. So, he buys it by himself so that he can boastfully show his family or friends. Regardless of their popularities, every guy gets at least a chocolate. Thant means only chocolate shops are making profit on Valentine Day.
