Mt Nokogiri – Hyakushaku Kannon

Hyakushaku Kannon – carving of the Buddhist Goddess of mercy in Nokogiri- yama, “Sawtooth Mountain” in Chiba Pref. This statue of goddess Kannon is 30.3 meters high, sculpted with sharp lines into the vertical cliff edge. A shaku is a Japanese measurement of the average length between nodes on bamboo. There are other sculptures along the hiking trails which combined with the spectacular scenery of the Bōsō Hills and Tokyo Bay, make Mount Nokogiri a popular tourism destination.
