Kimii-Dera, Wakayama

Kimii-Dera is built on the side of a small mountain, so you have to ascend 231 stairs before reaching. It is the second temple of the Saigoku 33 Kannon Temple Pilgrimage. It’s probably the most famous temple in the city & was originally built by a monk from China’s Tang Dynasty in 770. The original buildings do not remain, but historic structures include gate built in 1509 and the pagoda built in 1449.
