"Koyou", or autumn leaves viewing, is a
popular tradition in
Japan. It is the autumn equivalent of
"hanami", or cherry blossoms
viewing, in spring. During the months of September
through November, Japan's
countryside is transformed into a carpet of gold,
oranges and reds. Mountains
cloaked in deciduous forest and serene Zen
landscape gardens offer numerous
autumn photo opportunities. You will be seeing
Japan when its maple trees,
mountain ash, gingko, cherry, larch and other
deciduous trees are displaying
their best fall foliage.
This tour begins
Osaka,
following a route of mountainous interior through
the coastal regions
of Honshu, and then finishes in Tokyo. You'll
get the opportunity to experience a green tea ceremony
, watch a kimono fashion
show, relax in the hot
springs (onsen) and savor gourmet
kaiseki cuisine. Our private guides and drivers
will
take you to visit the ancient capital of
Nara,
where we visit Todaiji Temple
, the largest wooden building in Japan.
In Nara
Park, you can see over 1000 Sika deer
roam free. Spend two days in the ancient
city of Kyoto,
where you will have exclusive access to the city's
gardens, temples,
shrines and specialty shops. Visit Arashiyama
, the outskirt of Kyoto,
famous for its beautiful autumn leaves.
You'll
also have a chance to
visit the beautiful, but often overlooked by
Western tourists, city of
Kanazawa. Here, you'll visit
Seisonkaku Villa
, Kutani Pottery
Kiln, and Kenrokuen Garden
(one of Japan's top three gardens). Then
head on to Shirakawa-
go & Takayama,
located amongst the Japanese Alps. Due to their
remote location, these
places are beautifully preserved and developed
their own culture that is
unique from the rest of Japan. Next, spend a day
in Hakone and
Mt. Fuji
. Then, end your trip with a
comprehensive tour of Tokyo. Visit

's cultural landmarks, fashionable
neighborhoods and diverse shopping districts.
